Eline Mestdagh is a researcher at Ghent University. Through a critical lens, she analyses the role of historical culture in the struggles of the sub-Saharan African diaspora in Belgium for recognition. In her article “(Van) Wie is Zwarte Piet”, she focused on the tradition of Sinterklaas / Saint Nicholas. Mestdagh explores the changes in mentality and practices from the 1990s to the present day. Eline Mestdagh is one of the rising post-colonial thinkers in the academic field in Belgium.
